I would say "C". We have come to believe that the only way to be beautiful is to mimic other races. It is really sad because we are sending this message to the next generation of black women and men.

I wholehearteldy agree with you. I don't believe it when I hear our sisters say "just a fashion statement". Because they wear that 'fashion statement' so long it becomes hard for them too change it.

Sisters need to stop a moment...and catch our breath.
We are running so far away -- trying to
escape from the very thing we should
be running to -- Our Self Love.
Many Sisters are out of breadth, out of their element, & out of control.
It's way overdue. It's time that we begin putting our energy into Self-Love, which has to include love of our natural hair.
We've been exhaling long enough. It's time to now inhale the love of self.

I actually don't like blonde hair. xP
It has always reminded me of old person's hair, it's so pale, and it makes you look paler -- which I guess is what people like about it. Black folks with blonde hair look more like they have a tan, rather than being actually black.
But give me inky dark hair any day. When my hair is just washed and in the sun, the light makes little sparkles on the coils -- looks like stars in a night time sky to me. ^__^

I think this blog is great as it exposes the ugly truth behind what black women think is beautiful. I've been 100% natural for over 2 years and love every day of it. I have people coming up to me to compliment me and ask my advice on how to style or transition.
It would be great if hollywood and the fashion industry could recognize our individual beauty rather than view an afro as an editorial to add edge to a photo.
And Beyonce looks beautiful with her own hair. Thanks for the pics!

Also, thank you for accepting a little differing opinion. Please hear my whole point before we get tangled up on the hair issue.
I love my hair and I love my body even though no one (sober) has ever told me I should be a model. I am thankful for my family, for my health and for my education.
I've worn my beautiful black hair "natural" for my whole life except for one year where some girlfriends and I went blonde for almost a year (as many months as it took to grow out). I was thinking about changing the color so I asked them to help me with the bleach. I loved my hair blonde so much I didn't want to color it!
So for many months I watched how people treated me, some differently, some the same. I learned much about myself and the people around me since then.
I've learned that you can't tell a hater by her hairstyle, even a self-hater.
Self-hate shows itself in many forms, and there are many reasons why a girl would want to experiment with changing her look. I think in some ways a woman can learn to love herself by trying different looks, otherwise she makes the error of thinking that she is her body. You know what I'm talking about. My body may represent me, but it isn't me. I may be getting older, but inside I am that same girl that used to go out on Friday nights with my girls, stirring up trouble and having the time of our lives. We thought to be happy we had to talk a certain way, look a certain way, dress a certain way. We had certain people who were always trying to force us to please them.
If I've learned anything, it's that acceptance starts with accepting myself and then I accept others at whatever point in life they may be. Some girls work hard to perm or straighten their hair. Some are burdened by all the concern, some do all right. We all need the time and freedom to do what we have to do to learn about ourselves.
Sometimes it hurts to hear someone say "You're just tryin' to be white," or that certain things we do, certain music we enjoy, or certain language we use is "mimicking other races."
It's like this: We don't make music a racial thing in our home. When my boy was growing up, he would comes home with certain questions about music, I would ask him, "How can a sound have color? Isn't it funny how some people say, those sounds are black sounds and those other sounds are white sounds?" Then we would laugh. "It's not the sounds, but the meaning we assign to them." Same thing with hair color.
If a black woman wants to color her hair blonde, that might mean she's a "self-hater" or it just might mean that she's a black woman who is loving life and enjoying her right to explore the possibilities of living her life as she wants. It just depends on who you talk to, doesn't it?
Accepting yourself and others is about wisdom, which takes time for all of us. Why don't we give each other the room to grow as needed?
