Warning to the mothers who put beads on their daughter’s braids….
A pediatrician used to think all the young
African-American girls walking around with colorful
beads in their hair was — harmless.
Not so. A 7-year-old girl fell backwards onto
a 2-inch diameter hairball hanging from her braid.
She got a dented skull fracture with internal
bleeding. She required an emergency craniectomy — surgical removal of a portion of the skull. Yuck!
It left a permanent depression in her head.
The little one, required plastic surgery to repair the
defect.
In another case, a girl’s bead deeply embedded inher
skull bone. She too had to have an emergency craniectomy.
So mothers, you may want to think again,
before you reach for those 3 packets of beads
you were’s about to unload in Ariana’s hair.
