Taylor<BR>withdrew from a speaking engagement at Hampton.&nbsp; She said<BR>that she was insulted.&nbsp; She's been wearing braids&nbsp;more than half<BR>her life.&nbsp; <BR><BR>"The freedom to wear our hair in ways that celebrate our heritage is <BR>one of our 'rites of passage.' Students would benefit from learning <BR>how to care for and groom locks and braids and wear them in ways <BR>that are appropriate in a business setting," Taylor wrote. <BR><BR>And Susan is right.&nbsp; How long are we going to continue to bow<BR>down to the dominant culture's standards at the expense of our own?&nbsp;&nbsp;<BR><BR>As one sister put it on another blog, so wearing permed hair with<BR>split ends that can do triple back flips is better than having our<BR>natural hair?</FONT></DIV>]]></content>
