Natural Hair Not Corporate Enough?
True story: A Glamour editor recently presented
a slide show at a NYC law firm on the Do's &
Don'ts of Corporate Fashion.
First slide: a woman with an afro, "A real no-no,"
stated the Glamour editor to the 40-plus lawyers
in the room.
As for dreadlocks: "How truly dreadful," blurted
the so-called fashion expert. And she continued
that it was "shocking" that some people think it
is "appropriate" to wear those styles at the
office. "No offense," she dissed, but those
"political" hairstyles really have to go.
It seems our natural hair is in a constant
battle to break free from the shackles
of degradation that is both external and
self-imposed.

And my generation in Brazil was influenced by Cinema Novo. So we're echoing what's been done way in the past.
