1940s Hair Ad

Here's a 1943 ad for Aida Pomade
for pressing hair.  This was one of the
cosmetic products put out by Chicago
entrepreneur Anthony Overton.

Overton also published the
Chicago Bee
weekly newspaper.

And he had a large stake in the
(Frederick) Douglas National Bank &
the Liberty Life Insurance.

Interestingly, the illustrator of this
ad was a black man, Charles C.
Dawson who reflected a more
Afrocentric look in his people
drawings.  As opposed to others
in this time period who would draw
more European features on a Black
face.
