Paul Mooney Making Sense about Relaxed Hair
NeferKare made a comment on AOL's Hair Apparent blog. Her remarks
jolted my memory to the time conscious comedian Paul Mooney made a
thought-provoking statement. It was on one of the few sensible shows on

He called out one of the panelists with permed hair. Mooney blasted,
"She's wearing her hair relaxed so that Caucasians feel relaxed."
Now, aint that the truth? White folks feel much more comfortable around
a permed hair Sister. A loc-wearing Sister is intimidating to the melanin-
challenged. And when they attempt to wear locs -- they look a hot mess.
Conceivably the reasoning penetrates a deeper interpretive level.
Locs are more than a hairstyle. The sprouting phenomenon is a spiritual
evolution.
White folks just can't not deal with the vibe. It's totally alien.
My husband and I were watching that particular show when Paul Mooney addressed the permed sister in that manner. Ever since then, I repeat that as a mantra and wear my natural kinks with even great pride before...(Didn't even think it was possible)

I think that having permed hair isn't about making white people comfortable, its about making the person who wears it comfortable with themselves. It's unfortunate that it takes applying chemical illusions to make us feel beautiful, but such is the case for many. What is even more sad is that if you were to take a poll of all the degrading negative comments that we have experienced in our lives, I'll bet that 99% of the comments have come from our own people. The irony is that we were perms to be accepted by our own people. And that is why you will see a natural sistah with a white man more than you would see her with a black man.

Every one acknowledges that men's life is expensive, but different people require money for different issues and not every one gets big sums cash. So to get some loan and bank loan will be good way out.

We were now, as I before mentioned, upon this St. Joseph's trail. It was evident, by the traces, that large parties were a few days in advance of us; and as we too supposed them to be Mormons, we had some apprehension of interruption.
