I had no clue what to do with my hair since I was working out on a near daily basis. And somewhere, after six weeks of transitioning my hair looked a hot mess. My plan at the time was to transition back to natural hair and just wear a press 'n curl again since that seems to be when my hair was the healthiest. But shoot, you can't maintain a press n curl and workout. So I finally got the courage to get some braids. They were well done and I thought suited my professional life to a T. At the time, I was sooo in love with my near waist-length braids that I thought I'd never wear my own hair out again. And I didn't, not for three years.
But circumstances eventually forced me to deal with my own hair, plus I was getting rather sick of feeling like I couldn't wear my own hair out. More because I didn't know what to do with it and not so much do to any shame. Shoot I'm a child of the 70s and I wore fros all the time back then. But I considered that to be an out dated hair style.
But thanks to my desire to keep chemicals out of my hair and internet resources I have become a totally self-sufficient natural sista. Not too long ago, I tried to wear micro braids again and did even last two weeks lol!
So I could never knock someone who is living the long hair dream with extensions because they can definitely serve a purpose, but I do feel for women who never, ever get to a point where they let their own hair see the light of day. I was almost one of these causualties and looking back, I certainly wish I'd known about all the online resources that encourages black women to learn how to love, care for and style their natural hair sooner cause I think I'd given up the fake stuff a lot sooner than I did. Fake hair in braids is okay, but the only way sisters can get in touch w/ their true hair and their true selves is just to let the fake hair go.

And ha! Here's a pic of the last time I tried to wear micros. I thought I would lose my mind and kept having dreams...nightmares really...that I was snatching or cutting them out — including my own hair. As I said before, these bad boys only lasted two weeks. I took them down over the course of three days and finally got them all out on election night. That's it. That's the last time I'll wear extension in my hair.
However, I am flirting with the idea of wearing a fake puff. Only because I love puffs but they're too hard on my ends. So maaaybe this is a better alternative.
Hmmm... So you have sisterlocks? Got pics? Reply to this
