Is Shame Hiding Under the Headwraps?
Perhaps Black women have & still are wrapping
our hair due to shame or hard to control hair.
Many of us have never taken the time to understand
the natural flow of our hair. We'd rather imitate
someone's else hair texture. & when we can't
get it -- we wrap it up.

I wear them because i like the way they look, it's cultural and at times just to give my hair a rest, it has nothing to do with shame.

People wore headwraps on the plantation to keep their hair from getting dirty;they took them down for church on sunday

Yes, that may be true wearing headwraps to their hair wouldn't get dirty. But there was also a shame the
woman had of their hair. The white folks looked at their hair with such contempt, sisters covered up.
Sisters were made to see their hair as ugly. The premise still exists today. - Karen
