I agree. People need to understand that all that weave and lace front wigs take your hair out. I have natural curly hair and tried all that stuff and color. Got ill and between those things and meds I had to cut all my hair off and start over. We need to learn that our hair is a gift from GOD we need to just do us!

Solange looks BEAUTIFUL!! She was on Oprah with her new look. I wonder if her big sister Bey would take such a step as to sporting her own natural hair...maybe not because, her fame and success somewhat depends upon her looks. Who cares what black and white folks are saying....if they want to put chemicals onto their scalp--that is their choice. Let Solange be happy with the natural choice she has made. I think she needs a lining, but so far, so good.

Because your parents are of aftrican descent, you are African American. In the US, we have come to use African-american as a term meaning black. It doesn't. Many black people are not african (haitians) and some white people are african (Charlize Theron). The places your parents are from are known for the complexion you talk about, while south africans are often white. Whether olive toned, black, or white, you are african american. However, my ancestry is german, but I call myself white and american. You don't have to say you are, but you can. I don't think anyone will challenge you either way. It might help you get a scholarship for being a minority.

Because those who are stirring up controversy are mad because they can't get those styles with the type of hair they have. I personally think that all the variation of choices African Americans have when it comes to styling there hair are beautiful and unique.
