Anyone who thought such preconceptions were outdated would
have been reminded otherwise by some negative reactions to the
president’s 11-year-old daughter, Malia Obama, who wore her hair
in twists while in Rome this summer. Commenters on the
conservative blog Free Republic attacked her as
unfit to represent America for stepping out unstraightened.
Who gives a crap what the conservative right thinks...there is nothing wrong with the way Malia looks. Blacks have got to stop caring so much about what white people think...are they God? NO!

I know this is an old story but I still want to comment. This is exactly why we have to continue in the fight against negative perceptions and attitudes toward our kinky, curly, coily, twisted, locked hair. Personally, I don't give a damn what anyone thinks of my kinky hair, let alone a white person. I am glad that Malia wears her hair natural sometimes, and I hope to God she NEVER perms it.
